Fondation Capsule: A Journey Across Seas, Soils, and Stones

Every collection I create holds a story, not just of design, but of lived experience.

The Fondation Capsule is perhaps my most personal yet.

It was born from a year of movement, of grounding, of building a sense of home across three very different landscapes: the seas of Thailand, the red soil of Provence, and the rocky hills of New Mexico.

These places, and the memories they hold, became the foundation for this capsule — a collection that speaks of balance, cohesion, and the grounding energies of nature.

The Inspiration: Three Landscapes, One Story

  • Thailand & Southeast Asia: few months of beaches, shells, and underwater life inspired the Mother of Pearl element. It holds softness, light, and the fluid beauty of the sea.
  • South of France: Returning home to Provence meant rediscovering the terracotta soil, rich and red, a grounding reminder of heritage and belonging.
  • New Mexico: Our first months on rocky desert hills introduced the raw beauty of chrome-like stone, strength and resilience under shifting light.

Together, these experiences became the trio that anchors Fondation.

The Design: Cohesion in Contrast

The Fondation Capsule is structured around three key materials:

  • Mother of Pearl: iridescent and fluid, echoing the sea and feminine energy.
  • Terracotta: warm, earthy, and grounding, reflecting soil and fire.
  • Chrome rock: strong, reflective, and masculine, holding the energy of stone and sky.

These elements are framed in tonal contrasts — matte black, desert haze, and ocean pink — creating balance between masculine and feminine, earth and water, fire and stone.

The Meaning: Building from Where We Stand

Fondation is more than a design story. It is about finding balance in the places we’ve been and the places we are. For me, it represents:

  • Grounding: connecting with the soil, the rock, the textures that anchor us.
  • Cohesion: weaving together different landscapes into a single language of design.
  • Energy: holding both strength and softness, masculine and feminine, fire and water.

The Symbolism of Terracotta & Pearl

Across cultures, terracotta has long symbolized earth, craft, and permanence — from Mediterranean amphorae to architectural tradition.

Meanwhile, mother of pearl carries symbolism of protection, femininity, and transformation, often seen as a bridge between land and sea.

As Architectural Digest notes in their guide to terracotta in design, this material has made a strong return for its warmth and timeless appeal, proof that grounding elements are always in style.

The Fondation Home

This capsule is about creating spaces that feel anchored and whole. Whether it’s the shimmer of pearl, the warmth of terracotta, or the resilience of stone, the Fondation Capsule carries the textures of lived memory into the home.

Fondation is a reminder that art can hold memory, balance, and grounding.

It is about carrying the places that shaped us, weaving them into design, and honoring the energy of nature’s contrasts.

This capsule invites you to live with textures that tell a story — your own story of foundation, strength, and belonging.
